It's a type of chalcedony, a member of the quartz family, and is particularly known for its beauty and rarity, being found exclusively along the northeastern coast of Madagascar. These spherical inclusions, ranging from a few millimeters in diameter, are formed during the alteration and silicification of rhyolite or tuff. The most defining characteristic of Ocean Jasper is its distinctive circular patterns, often compared to ocean waves or miniature landscapes.
